Nick de Vries will replace Lewis Hamilton at the wheel of his car in the first practice. After a good result in Spielberg, Mercedes is optimistic about the stage in Paul Ricard…
Toto Wolff, Team Principal: “The third and fourth place in Austria can be considered a good result given the situation on Friday evening. The team did wonders by restoring both cars for the sprint and the Grand Prix. 27 points on Sunday was a nice reward for this effort.
In the first seven races we have earned three podiums and in the last four – four. I am pleased with the progress of the team, a reflection of our incredible efforts. With each round, we understand W13’s weaknesses better, which affects its progress and results.
In Austria we increased the speed, but still not fast enough to fight for the lead. It is necessary to continue the last tenths and refinement of the machines, also this weekend in France.
Paul Ricard is a different track and a different challenge – slippery road surface, long straights and varied corners. Our goal is to further close the gap with the leaders and climb back onto the podium.
Nick de Vries will drive Lewis’s car this year as part of the mandatory training for young drivers. We are curious how he does it.”
