Esteban Ocon scored points in his first three races and gave him the best start to a season in his Formula 1 career. The Alpine driver is looking to continue his streak at Imola next weekend.
Q: You are seventh in the individual standings with twenty points. You must be happy with how the season started, right?
Esteban Ocon: I have scored points in three races in a row, which can be considered a good result for me, so I am very happy with the way the season has started. I show consistently high results, but there are many areas where I can improve. The team has had mixed results and the fact that we are not completely satisfied with the current positions shows how much progress has been made in recent months.
We see that the car has the pace and potential, but we have to put together the necessary parts every weekend so that the results as a whole are higher.
It is important that the team has demonstrated its competitiveness. I think I can speak on behalf of everyone at Enstone and Weary that we are more motivated than ever to achieve the results the team is capable of.
Q: Imola is hosting the first sprint of the season. What do you think of this layout and how do you generally prepare for the upcoming weekend?
Esteban Ocon: It’s great to be racing in Europe again – it feels like the last time we did that was a long time ago! As for the sprint, I fully support the evolution of our sport and all the things that will make racing more fun for the fans. Personally, I love the sprint format and can’t wait to get behind the wheel and earn as many points as possible for the team.
As for the preparation for the weekend, I’ll just keep going – the sprint doesn’t affect my approach. I will work on the simulator and mentally and physically I will prepare like I would any other race.
Q: Do you like the circuit in Imola?
Esteban Ocon: Italy has a special place in my heart because I spent many years in this country in junior racing series. I became European Formula 3 champion in 2014 with a win and a podium finish in Italy, so I have many fond memories of the country.
Imola is a classic circuit with deep racing roots and a joy to visit. It’s great that she returned to the calendar a few years ago. I love performing for Italian fans.
Last year Fernando and I earned points and now we are going to do everything we can to improve the result this weekend.
