Frederic Wasser: We have to go back to the previous level

After two races without points in a row, Alfa Romeo expects to return to the previous level and compete with rivals …

Frederic Vasseur, Team Principal: “We came to France hoping to regain our former competitive position after difficult races at Silverstone and Spielberg where we were unable to earn points. The team is trying to understand the reasons for the failed performance, we are confident that we can return to the level we performed at this season.

The battle in the middle group of teams is getting tighter and more exciting with each race, but our goal is to become leaders in this group. In Austria we finished outside the top ten and this weekend we need to do more.

There was a lot of overtaking at Paul Ricard in 2021, with this year’s cars there should be even more. We are ready to fight, we want to get a good result and add points to our piggy bank.”

Valtteri Bottas: “In recent years I have loved performing at Paul Ricard, in 2019 I climbed on the podium here. The track is close to where I live, for me it is almost a home race. Our goal this weekend, like any other, is to get a good result.

I was disappointed not to score points in Spielberg, but I was happy to bounce back from the pit lane from the start and have some interesting duels. The battle in the middle group of teams will be tight again. Last year we managed to overtake, so this time the race should be interesting. We have to do our best on the track and get back to where we need to be: earn points.”

Guanyu Zhou: “I drove on this track in Formula 3 in 2016 and Formula 2 in 2019, but the podium behind the wheel of Formula 1 is a very different experience. There’s a lot to learn this weekend and I’m looking forward to getting started.

After the last Grand Prix there is a feeling that we are not quite finished with our work. I think we have a chance to do better this weekend, get back to the level we showed in Canada, earn points. The battle will be exciting, as always, but we are determined to do our best.”
