Ferrari decided to time the presentation of a new version of the 499P hypercar design to coincide with the 126th anniversary of the birth of Enzo Ferrari – in these cars, numbered 50 and 51, the factory racers of the Ferrari team – AF Corse will compete for victories in the top category of the WEC in 2024.
As is clear from the press release dedicated to this event, the livery of the Ferrari sports prototype combines traditional approaches with new ones. Last year, the speed and reliability of the 499P hypercars helped the Maranello team achieve a historic victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and take second place at the end of the season.
Red is a classic Ferrari color, but the car also has elements of yellow in its design, and this color symbolizes the city of Modena. The exterior of the car shows the style in which the design of the Ferrari 312 PB was maintained, the last sports prototype of the team, more than half a century ago, in 1973, which took part in the World Endurance Championship.
The color red is exactly the same color that the Scuderia used in Formula 1 in 2007, when Kimi Raikkonen became world champion and Ferrari won the constructors’ championship. Elements of a different color are added to the design in a special way: they should not only emphasize the fast contours of the car, but also make it more noticeable in the dark and in poor visibility.
This year, the WEC stage will be organized for the first time at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar: everything starts there on February 24 and 25 with the so-called. “Prologue”, followed by a race called “Qatar 1812 km” on March 2. The second round of the season takes place in Imola (Italy) on April 21, followed by the 6 Hours of Spa (Belgium) on May 11; The legendary marathon in Le Mans (France) starts on June 15, followed by a 6-hour race in Sao Paulo (Brazil) on July 14; On September 1, the race will take place at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin (USA), on September 15 the 6-hour race will be organized at the Fuji Circuit (Japan) and the season will end on November 2 – the final will again be the “8 Hours of Bahrain”.
