Daniel Ricciardo set the fourth fastest time on the first day of the winter test, but calls for the results not to be overestimated…
Daniel Ricciardo: “Everything went well on the first day of testing, but we should not rush to conclusions. Our goal is to fight in the first ranks of the mid-range teams. There is not yet the feeling that we have met this level, but we are striving for it.
We have a decent car, but there is still a lot of work to be done, and the numbers we got during testing show that we still have a lot to do. We want to fight for a place in the middle group, but I’m not sure if we will start the season there.
Externally it’s very different, but inside it’s the same car we raced in Abu Dhabi last year. We brought an update to that race and now we are developing this direction. I have a new chassis and everything, but the philosophy remains the same.
It is clear that, compared to Red Bull Racing, we have to make up a lot of lap times. Obviously this was only the first day of testing, but the amount of work that needs to be done is already clear. Overall the feeling and balance are good, we just need to get better lap times.”
