Lando Norris recorded the second fastest time on the first day of testing in Bahrain. The McLaren driver worked in the afternoon session and completed 73 laps. His teammate Oscar Piastri drove the MCL38 in the morning session and completed 57 laps.
Lando Norris (2nd): “First of all I have to say that I am happy to be behind the wheel again. I enjoyed the first day of testing the new car. There were no problems with reliability, so the day can be considered positive.
As is usually the case with tests, we worked with several questions and finalized our plan. There are still two long days ahead, in which we can improve a lot and find more effective settings, but now we can say that the team is moving in the right direction.
I look forward to getting behind the wheel again tomorrow and further testing the MCL38.”
Oscar Piastri (9th): “The first day is over, everything went relatively smoothly. I’m happy to be back on the road and working under suitable conditions. Let’s see what else can be done in the remaining days of testing. The goal is to have a good understanding of the machine by the time they are finished.
The car drives well. There are some differences from last year, which was a step in the right direction.
Good start with testing. I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel again tomorrow.”
