Peter Bayer: We have a lot of confidence in it

Peter Bayer, executive director of the Visa RB team, shared his impressions from the start of pre-season testing on Sky Sport, and so far he has every reason to be in a good mood.

Peter Bayer: “The off-season was a very busy period because we were doing a rebrand and we had to get everything right, but the team did a great job. We have been looking forward to the start of winter testing and finally we are here in Bahrain.

Yesterday everything went very well, we worked fruitfully on the track, there were no serious problems – this confirms that the team prepared our new car well for the tests. Both drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda, were comfortable behind the wheel and reported no significant problems. It’s too early to draw conclusions, we continue to study the characteristics of the car, but so far everything is going well.

The team’s shareholders offer us very strong support, they want us to make progress and we can already say that we have a lot of confidence now, which makes us very happy. New specialists are coming to us – everyone will be surprised when they find out who exactly is joining us, and Laurent Mekies, who has taken on the position of team leader, is already helping us a lot.

He took charge of all the sporting aspects, and I am responsible for the business aspects, and we have already worked very well together.

According to both drivers, the new car has great potential, but the team still has a lot of work to do to find the optimal settings – this will be the focus of our attention in the remaining testing days to prepare ourselves as best as possible for the Grand Bahrain Prix.

It helps that we have experienced racers who provide the engineers with a lot of useful information about how best to set up the car. In the case of a beginner, the exchange of information goes from the team to him, but in the case of an experienced professional, the opposite is true: the flow of information is directed from him to the team.

We had a very productive meeting last night and we intend to continue in the same vein and make improvements gradually.”
