Alonso: It’s difficult to say what positions we take

On the second day of testing in Bahrain, Fernando Alonso completed a morning session in which he completed 31 laps. During the day he was replaced at the wheel of Aston Martin by Lance Stroll, who completed 96 laps and recorded the seventh fastest time of the day. Based on the results of the tests, Aston Martin’s press service published only Alonso’s comments.

Fernando Alonso (12th): “The start of a new season always brings a lot of emotions, even though 23 years have passed since my debut. It’s always nice to get back in the cockpit after a break and drive a Formula 1 car.

Pre-season testing is important as we get to know the car’s characteristics and start to find ways to optimize it.

It is difficult to say where we are compared to our opponents, since everyone was working on different programs, but the first two days we did everything we planned, and this is positive.

We learned a lot in the second half of last season, including which areas we need to continue to work on. We’re doing well at the moment, but I’m sure all teams have taken steps forward, so the question is who has taken the biggest step compared to last year.

We will continue to work on the car and understand it in the remaining testing time, but also in the first two races. So far everything looks positive and we have done a good job at the moment.”
