Pirelli noted that although Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz was fastest on the second day of testing in Bahrain, he set his best lap on C4 tyres, while Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton showed second and third fastest times on harder C4 compound tires . The difference in lap results was approximately six-tenths.
The 17 drivers on track all day used all the slick compounds available to the teams during the two sessions, but as yesterday, C3 was the most popular choice. In total they completed 1,219 laps (6,579 km) and for 70% of these the cars of the ten teams were fitted with tires of this composition, which will also be used during the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Mario Isolahead of the Pirelli racing division: “Based on the analysis of the data we collected, we can say that there were no particular surprises in terms of the loads the tires undergo.
There was a strong wind in the morning, which caused some problems for the drivers, but in the afternoon the wind died down and in these conditions everyone was able to work more consistently on the track as the cars were better balanced.
Many teams have completed long laps, but we have also seen some starting to test how fast the cars can go, in an attempt to find the limits of their capabilities.”
