Daniel Ricciardo completed the afternoon session of the second day of testing in Bahrain and set the fifth fastest time. The RB driver assessed the team’s prospects in the first race of the season, adding that tests do not answer all questions.
Daniel Ricciardo (5th): “Sainz showed the best time today, but this only raises questions. How much fuel did he have? What was the operating mode of the engine? We do not know. So whatever position we take on the protocol, I prefer to think we’re somewhere in the middle.
I understand that I won’t start from pole next week, but I like to think we’ll be competing in the middle group. If we manage to reach the qualifying finals and earn points, then this can be considered a good start to the season. This is our goal. Whether it will be possible to achieve this or not, time will tell.
As the season progresses, we get to know the car better and gradually work with more new employees. Once this first phase is over, we will gradually raise the bar.”
