On the second day of pre-season testing, Alpine continued to work with two drivers: Pierre Gasly took the wheel of the A524 in the morning and Esteban Ocon replaced him in the afternoon. In total, the racers completed 111 laps on the C1 and C3 tire compounds, continuing to study the characteristics of the new car.
Esteban Ocon (8th): “Today I had a very long test session because its duration was extended. We lost time in the morning due to an early stop, but were able to complete the entire program, including the morning program.
During the day the car got better and better. It was great to test the A524 in different conditions, which are more representative of the conditions we will see at the Grand Prix next weekend.
Towards the end of the session we even managed to do a bit of a battle with our rivals, which was fun. Normally this doesn’t happen during testing, but this time everyone was impatient and several cars were driving side by side towards the first corner with sparks. I’m definitely looking forward to racing!”
Pierre Gasly (14th): “A good day for the team – we tested a lot and collected a lot of information for analysis. My session was unfortunately short due to red flags. It’s not a good thing if you can’t complete a program completely, but sometimes it does happen.
I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel again tomorrow afternoon to continue working on optimizing the car. Every time we go to the track we learn different things about the car and we do our best to learn as much as we can before the first race of the season.
The day turned out to be shorter than I expected, so the time I spend driving tomorrow will be very important.”
