Haas F1 believes the final day of testing was productive; on Friday, the team’s drivers combined to complete 169 laps of the Bahrain circuit, completing 441 laps in just three days – that’s 2,386.7 km. Kevin Magnussen drove the VF-24 in the morning, followed by Nico Hulkenberg in the afternoon, both completing short and long laps, including a simulated race each.
Ayo Komatsuteam leader: “Today we ran a qualifying simulation for the first time, because we had to check the balance of the car with a small amount of fuel, after which we ran two racing simulations – first Kevin, then Nico.
All this went well, despite the current problems with the condition of the track. Overall it was a very good day, but during the race simulation it became clear that there was still a lot of work to be done. At least we already have a car to race with.
Although we had not worked in qualifying mode at all until today, we were confident that the VF-24 can reach a decent speed in one fast lap. “I am very satisfied with how the preparation for the season went, I am happy with our work and I thank the whole team.”
Kevin Magnussen: “During tests you never get answers to all the questions, you always want to work longer on the track, because three days divided between two riders is very little.
Nevertheless, I believe we were able to do a lot, the car left a good impression and now all efforts must be focused on preparing the race as best as possible.
To do this, we drove several long series of laps with a high fuel load, trying to accomplish this task, and in my opinion we managed to achieve something. We haven’t fully dealt with it yet, but I hope there is some progress. I predict that this year the competition between all teams will again be very intense.”
Nico Hulkenberg: “Today we have completely completed the program, which is good. We also ran a race simulation and although I haven’t yet compared our results with the results of other teams, we have collected a large amount of information over three days of testing that now needs to be analyzed.
Like everyone else, we were able to conduct some experiments, because that’s what tests are for, and their results can also be considered quite positive. It is still difficult to say what positions we are in, but we will know in a week. It is still too early to draw conclusions, but I can judge based on my impressions: compared to last year’s car, we have taken a step in the right direction.”
