Mercedes chief racing engineer Andrew Shovlin praised the results of pre-season testing in Bahrain and the team’s readiness for the season, although he stressed that much remains to be done.
Andrew Shovlin: “The testing in Bahrain is over, we spent three very productive days there and made significant progress with the car. A lot of effort has gone into finding the optimal settings, but it was equally important to study the behavior of the W15 and understand how we would act throughout the year if it were necessary to adapt to a particular circuit to fit.
Again, we have made good progress and we have seen that we have solved many of the issues that our drivers have been talking about with the W13 and W14 cars over the last twelve months, if not two years, which is encouraging.
In any case, we will continue to fine-tune, try to make even more progress and can certainly add more. But overall we are happy with the speed of the new car. It looks like the way he handles long series of laps will be one of our strengths.
While there is still work to be done on our one-lap speed, we should be able to challenge for strong results when we return to the track in just five days. Of course the whole team is excited about the coming season and ready to race.”
