On the final day everyone expected to complete the race distance and qualify, but half an hour after the start of the tests the racers had to return to the pits.
Just like yesterday, the first test session in Bahrain was stopped due to a broken drainage hatch at Turn 11. This time it was Sergio Perez who caught her and complained to the team about the impact on the bottom.
The driver returned to the pits, where the mechanics began to inspect the car – even Adrian Newey personally climbed under the car. An FIA representative arrived at the scene of the incident. They brought a welding machine and a grinding machine. The stage organizers and the FIA still have six days to prevent a repeat of such incidents at the upcoming Grand Prix, as training starts in Bahrain on Thursday.
The trivial repair of the hatch cover, like the day before, caused problems. More than ten specialists surrounded the scene of the incident, the FIA delegate conducted negotiations by radio and the racers were bored in the pits for more than an hour. On this occasion the lunch break was canceled but we still had to take a break to change the seat and adjust the pedals.
At 2 p.m. local time, when the morning session was due to end, Carlos Sainz led the protocol and completed a lap in 1:31.247.
