At the end of the first session, Alex Albon’s car stopped on track, and the Williams driver explained on Sky Sports what the problem was, as well as what tasks the team was solving on the first day of the pre-season season tests in Bahrain.
Alex Albon: “First of all you have to understand how the FW46 behaves on the track, how it differs from last year’s car, but at the end of the session there were problems with the fuel pump and if the engine runs out of fuel, this can cause serious to have consequences. So I stopped briefly on the highway because the so-called ‘safe mode’ was activated.
In general, it is too early to evaluate the new car, but it is clear that it is free from a number of shortcomings characteristic of last year’s FW45, but it seems that a number of others have appeared. However, I cannot even mention these shortcomings – they are just compromises in the approach to institutions that are palpable. But we are already working to eliminate them. Of course, three days of testing is not enough, and it is unlikely that we will have time to do everything we want to do, but we are gradually moving towards the goal.
After yesterday’s shooting day we have an idea of the car, so now, during the second session, Logan Sargent continues the work we started, and today together with the team we have to draw up a plan for the second day of testing to work as efficiently as possible tomorrow.”
