Carlos Sainz is in no hurry to decide where he will spend the next phase of his Formula 1 career, as his choice depends on the answer to the question: which team has the best chance to challenge for the championship title?
Carlos Sainz: “If there is one thing I have had in recent years, it is stability. This is my fourth year at Ferrari and I feel ready to take on the challenge that awaits me in the coming season. Of course the approach will be a little different this year as I know this is my last season in the Scuderia – which means each race has to be done separately.
It is clear that the team no longer counts on my services to modernize the car, but this will allow me to fully concentrate on getting the most out of the SF24 every weekend and giving everything so that my farewell to Ferrari is accompanied by only one can achieve the best results ever.
Of course I will play for another team next year, but I don’t know which one yet. I won’t make a decision in haste, but it has to be the right one, and for this I have to talk to all the teams and understand who gives me the greatest chances to become world champion in the future.
Ideally, next season I would like to be in a favorable position to fight for victories in 2025 and beyond. But actually I believe that since a change in Formula 1 regulations is imminent, we should rather focus on the longer term.”
Although the results of the pre-season tests cannot be taken as the ultimate truth, they are nevertheless a kind of indicator that gives a general idea of the balance of power, and on Thursday it was Sainz who showed the best time, which no one would can surpass. Presumably this year he will try to strengthen his reputation as a fast, stable and smart driver who fits in with any top team, and the first step in this direction has already been taken.
