Former Formula 1 driver Pedro de la Rosa now acts as an ambassador for the Aston Martin team and is aware of all the issues going on there. He closely followed the progress of the pre-season testing in Bahrain and shared his observations with the Spanish press.
“You can’t fool yourself and give in to false expectations,” he said. – I tried to avoid this and didn’t want to make any predictions. To be honest, I still have no idea what the balance of power will be. Our team did not concentrate on working on speed in one fast lap, we were more focused on long runs and trying to understand the approach of the tires to determine the intensity of their degradation on our car. And we’ll see the rest next Friday, when the qualifications take place.
Apart from the results of Red Bull Racing, which show clear signs of the team’s superiority, we know nothing else and it is very difficult to make comparisons. But she will be overcome
really difficult.
Of course, this season will depend even more on the skill of the riders. When the teams’ results come closer together, it is up to the drivers who will end up in which positions. But we must also take into account that many teams will start preparing for 2026 at the end of this year.
Our team will find the information we gathered last season very useful; it helped us decide which way to go when creating a new car. I believe we learned an important lesson in 2023 and are now in a better position. However, it is better to promise less but achieve a lot than to make optimistic predictions, after which people start demanding explanations from you.
I don’t think our team has ever made unrealistic promises, we just tried to fight the leaders whenever possible. Now we also have a very realistic pose. I don’t want to give in to excessive optimism. We just keep working quietly, keep moving forward, even if the next steps won’t be so big compared to the progress made last year. Don’t worry though, initially our machine is quite efficient and works well.”
