Steiner: The atmosphere at Mercedes can become tense

Günther Steiner returns to the Formula 1 paddock, but as an expert we told you that he has accepted an offer of cooperation from the German television channel RTL.

The former head of the Haas F1 team vowed not to change his principles and to continue speaking his mind – viewers will see him in a new role for the first time at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

“As always, I will remain true to myself, I will say what I think, but of course I will remain impartial,” Steiner said. – I will try to clearly present and share all information I receive with the public, and I will make every effort to do so.

After the first tests it is still difficult to draw conclusions, but it already seems that the image will be approximately the same as last year. It seems like the McLaren drivers need to have a lot of self-confidence this year. If we talk about smaller teams, noticeable progress can be expected from Visa RB. And of course it will be great if Ferrari can achieve success in the very first races.

Lewis Hamilton’s impending divorce from Mercedes will have little impact on this team. He is an excellent professional, but Mercedes also works very professionally, so I think there will be no internal problems in the team. Although the atmosphere could become tense if George Russell outperforms the seven-time world champion from the very beginning of the season.

It is very logical that Lewis wants to say goodbye to Mercedes in an elegant manner, after which he will move to Ferrari. But if George suddenly starts showing results that we do not expect from him, the situation in the team could deteriorate.”
