Haas drivers are quite positive about the results of the pre-season testing and hope that the team has been able to solve last year’s biggest problem related to the increased degradation of rubber on the Grand Prix distance. Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen believe that some progress has been made, but are trying to avoid raising expectations.
Nico Hulkenberg: “Overall, the pre-season tests went well and their results can be considered positive. It is always difficult to assess what has been achieved, and I do not want to be overly enthusiastic or experience greater enthusiasm, but there are certainly some improvements, and precisely in those areas where we had problems last year.
It’s nice to see and feel progress, because this is exactly what was so important to achieve.
It’s too early to talk about what positions we take, but we have had some interesting days: we successfully completed the test program and in terms of reliability everything was not bad either. I am looking forward to the start of the season and am now very curious to see how everything will go.”
Kevin Magnussen: “We can be satisfied with the results of the tests. The goal was to work on long runs with high fuel load laps, to solve all the race-specific issues to solve the biggest problem that plagued us last year, and I think we have made progress.
I would like to avoid higher expectations because we still have a lot to do, but we have already made progress during our off-season work and testing with the car.
Bahrain is a difficult circuit, there is a particularly high load on the rear tires, which usually leads to intense degradation of the rubber, and if you manage to control the wear, this is already a good sign. But this is not easy to achieve, so it is good that the tests took place there and we could start looking for solutions to last year’s problems.
I’m looking forward to the race to see where we are, because the race weekend is the final test of whether we have made progress or not. Everyone has a fighting spirit and there is a great atmosphere in the team, something I haven’t felt for a long time.”
