Experts are skeptical about Alpine F1’s form during winter testing, but the team’s drivers are optimistic about the start of the season…
Esteban Ocon: “After a long winter of preparation and three days of pre-season testing, I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel and fighting on track again. During the tests at the end of one of the sessions I fought wheel to wheel with my rivals and I want to continue this battle next weekend.
The tests in Bahrain were very useful for us, we learned a lot about the new car. She improved from the first to the last day of testing and we expect the same progress as the weekend progresses.
It is difficult to assess the balance of power after short tests in which the teams operated under different programs and with different amounts of fuel. We focused on our tasks and tried to gather as much information as possible.”
Pierre Gasly: “At the start of the season in Formula 1 you always have a special feeling. This is the moment when all the rumors and conversations are behind us, we return to the track and start racing again.
I am in top shape both physically and mentally. I’ve had a fantastic off-season and am ready for a season of 24 Grands Prix.
Over the past week we performed well on tests, focused on our tasks and calmly completed our program. It will take time to get the best out of the car, but that’s okay.
I remain realistic. I know the start of the season will not be easy for us, the most important thing is to keep working, learning and progressing.”
