The 2024 Formula 1 season calendar includes a record 24 rounds, but former Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer believes that with proper planning the number of Grands Prix could be increased to 30 per season.
Otmar Szafnauer: “I believe that if you plan everything well, you can include 25 to 30 stages in the calendar. However, if there are 30 races, each team will need two full teams, so that each of them completes 15 stages. And then the staff will have less work pressure than now.
I believe Liberty Media is doing the right thing in the best interest of the sport. Formula 1 is a global sport, and if we really want to be global, is it worth having 25, 26, 27 races in different countries around the world? The calendar allows this.
Once logistical issues are resolved, this is an achievable goal. It is necessary to plan and think about what to do with the human factor. I think everything will be fine if you take a creative approach.”
