Alpine F1 boss Otmar Szafnauer spoke about preparing for the home race…
Q: How do you feel waiting for the home Grand Prix?
Otmar Safnauer: The home stage is always great. We are looking forward to driving under the French flag at the Paul Ricard circuit this weekend, the support of the fans will make it special.
All Alpine staff are very proud to be part of the Formula 1 team and we are doing everything we can to make sure everyone is proud of our results this weekend.
The Race in Austria allowed the team to rise to fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. How do you evaluate the results?
Otmar Safnauer: The weekend is not ideal, but we once again showed our competitiveness. We are working not only on short-term solutions, but also on long-term solutions to avoid a recurrence of the problems we faced in Spielberg.
The performance in Austria was a good indication of the progress we have made this season. We have moved up to fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, the next step is to gain a foothold in this position, and for this you have to consistently earn points with two cars.
Ahead of a run of two races in a row, it is important to get the best possible result in each of them to strengthen our position ahead of the summer break.
Q: What is the reason for the car problems in Austria, what updates will the team bring to the home stage?
Otmar Safnauer: We determined that Fernando was unable to start the sprint due to a power failure in the ECU. We’re working to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
We also deal with fuel pump failures, in consultation with the engineers of the Bosch company that supplies them. We understand that we need to achieve maximum efficiency and reliability to solve the tasks for the team for the season.
As for the new products, we will bring the updated bottom end to France and test it on both cars this Friday.
Q: What is the team’s goal at the French Grand Prix?
Otmar Safnauer: To prepare as best as possible for qualifying and the race, a productive Friday practice is necessary. The goal is to get two cars to the final qualifying and earn points in the race.
I’ll be happy as we pass the weekend on the home track without mistakes from start to finish, making the most of the potential of both machines and both drivers to get a foothold in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. We hope the fans will enjoy the upcoming Grand Prix.
