The first FIA World Council meeting of 2024 took place on Wednesday, formally approving a new format for the sprint race weekend.
The new format is as follows: Friday is the only training and qualifying for the sprint. On Saturday there is a sprint and main qualifying for the race, on Sunday there is a race.
There will be a total of six sprint weekends in 2024: in China, Miami, Austria, Austin, Sao Paulo and Qatar.
In addition, the World Council has approved changes to the Technical Regulations that allow the installation of rider cooling equipment in the event of extreme heat.
The World Council has approved separate suppliers of oil level sensors, fuel flow meters, pressure and temperature sensors for 2026.
The next meeting of the World Council is scheduled for June 11.
