Esteban Ocon agrees with Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly that the team is facing a difficult start to the season. Esteban added that engineers have prepared several technical innovations for the Bahrain Grand Prix, but these do not guarantee successful performance at the Sakhir circuit.
Esteban Ocon: “The first race will not necessarily reflect the image of the entire season. We plan to install several new products on the car, but there is a good chance that we will start the season completely differently than we would like.
At the presentation of the car we talked about something similar. We have a new concept and we still have a lot to learn about it. With this car the team starts with a clean slate, but we see better prospects and more opportunities for progress.
This year we still get chances and I have to keep attacking. If we start the season as bad as everyone says, we can get up now and leave the paddock. But no, I’m not like that.”
Esteban answered a direct question about whether Alpine really has the slowest car in the championship at the moment: “We will find out in two days.”
