This year the seasonal calendar includes a record number of races: 24 Grand Prix from March to December. World champion Max Verstappen thinks this is too much…
Max Verstappen: “I have the feeling that we have already exceeded the race limit. I’m still young, but I understand that I won’t be doing this again for the next ten years when we have 24 races per season. Quality is more important than quantity, I have already said that this cannot continue.
I really love racing and often race outside of Formula 1, but at a certain point you start to think about the quality of life, about how much time you spend away from home.
At some point I would rather stay home and focus on other projects. That’s not a problem now, but I know that in a few years things will be completely different.
Perhaps at some point we will have to think about changing drivers at the end of the season, although that seems impossible at the moment. That’s what me and a few other drivers think, and the decision depends on the management of Formula 1, on what they want to do with the sport. But if athletes have to cut their careers short because it’s too much, that’s not good. Hopefully we can investigate this issue in the future.”
