FSC-certified Pirelli tires make their debut in Formula 1

Formula 1 is the first world championship to debut tires certified by the international Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). An FSC certificate means that the plantations from which vegetable raw materials for rubber production are supplied meet environmental standards in terms of supporting biodiversity, and also generate income for the people who work on them and the local population.

Pirelli became the first company in the global tire industry to have all automotive and motorsport products receive such certification by 2024. From this season onwards, all tires intended for Formula 1 will be marked with a special marking in the form of the FCS logo – including these logos that were already on the tires used by the teams in the pre-season tests.

All youth series – F2, F3 and F1 Academy – also use Pirelli tires with this marking, and after use they are recycled and the resulting materials are reused.

Giovanni Tronchetti ProveraPirelli Executive Vice President Motorsport: “The debut of FSC-certified tires in the motorsport world is an important moment in the implementation of Pirelli’s environmental programme. In 2021 we were the first to produce FSC-certified tires for production cars, and now we are the first to do so for motorsport, and that is something to be proud of.

We consider Formula 1 to be an incredibly useful open-air laboratory. This makes it possible not only to develop and test new technologies and not only to improve the research processes associated with the production of tires for road vehicles, but also to achieve the maximum efficiency required for racing conditions, combined with a commitment to environmental programs that are increasingly important to all peace.”
