Mike Krak: Our job is to maintain the current composition

Mike Krak, the head of the Aston Martin team, is not yet sure which positions it can compete for at the beginning of the season, but hopes that the competitiveness will be at a high enough level, and this will allow Fernando Alonso to stay in the competition. the team.

Mike Krak: “To be honest, I don’t know yet what results we will be able to achieve, and in that respect the first training was no more informative than last week’s tests. I think for now we have to be patient and wait for Saturday’s race. We will know more after this, especially since we still had to check something after the tests.

Additionally, as the session progressed, the wind conditions made the track conditions very difficult. The wind was clearly blowing stronger than during the test days, but in any case we worked well and are now preparing for the second training.

I hope we’ll talk about ourselves again this Saturday. However, we are always realistic and try to estimate our capabilities modestly, because we have very strong opponents. But we have a program in place for quite aggressive modernization of the car so that our team can still attract attention.”

With Lewis Hamilton’s sensational decision to join Ferrari in 2025 already causing the driver market to shift, Krak was asked how he could keep Fernando Alonso in the team, who is already being actively wooed by Mercedes.

“I am also a fan, and in my opinion Lewis’s move to Ferrari is causing a very lively reaction from all of us, because very serious changes await him. – responded the head of Aston Martin. – Of course this has been actively discussed in recent weeks, but it is clear that now is the time to ask other questions.

First of all, Fernando has to decide whether he wants to continue his career or not – he has made that clear. But if he wants, I hope we are in pole position. We will try to save him, so we will negotiate with him. But first he has to know exactly what he wants to do.

Of course our job is to keep the current squad, and I definitely hope Alonso will stay in the team. It’s an interesting question, but I think this: Fernando being Fernando, we can be sure that he will give the best of himself until the last lap of his Formula 1 career, regardless of which team he drives for. Now this is very useful for our Aston Martin…”
