RB drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo failed to reach the final qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix, posting eleventh and fourteenth fastest times respectively. The team expected more, but thinks they can earn points in the race.
Yuki Tsunoda (11th): “Too bad I didn’t have enough to reach the final, but I’m happy with my performance. Yesterday we had some serious problems, especially in the second practice, but the team did a great job and the car drove well today.
We continue to understand the car’s characteristics and improve every session. The team is happy with the progress.
I think we got the best out of the car, but points are awarded based on the results of the race, so the team will focus on competing on Saturday. The car is fast over a long series of laps, so I am confident and happy to be on the start again!”
Daniel Ricciardo (14th): “I’m not very happy with my performance, even a little disappointed. The team had a stable weekend and went into qualifying with confidence, but I didn’t feel comfortable behind the wheel, which caused me problems during the lap. As a result, when I crossed the finish line I didn’t feel like I had done well.
If we talk about the speed of the car, Yuki’s result shows what positions we expected to be in. Today I wasn’t as comfortable behind the wheel as in the previous sessions of the weekend, but during the race the approach to the track and the car changes, making me more confident about tomorrow. I think I have a chance to earn points.”
