Fernando Alonso (6th): “I didn’t expect us to be so competitive, and I’m very pleased. The winter testing went well, but we were unable to match the pace of the leaders.
We were fast in practice, but in qualifying we changed the engine mode and finished only tenth behind Ferrari. An unexpected result for us.
Stage? Last week I would have said it was 100% impossible, but now expectations have changed, and that’s great!”
Lance walk (12th): “The AMR24 performed well in qualifying, reflecting productive work during testing. I was happy with my pace in the first session, but in the second I got stuck in traffic at Turn 13, which, given such a close battle, prevented me from progressing.
Tomorrow’s race promises to be interesting. I will do everything I can to get a good start, but we will see.”
