Thanks to Fernando Alonso’s ninth place and Lance Stroll’s tenth place, Aston Martin managed to grab two points in Bahrain. The team is happy with these results from the first race and admits that they still have a lot of work to do to modernize the car.
Fernando Alonso (9th): “I’m happy that I earned points today. The result is reasonably in line with expectations.
Considering the gaps between the competitors at the front and the back, my race was quite uneventful. We decided to extend the first and second stints in the hope of a safety car, but it never came on track.
I think we need to analyze the lap pace and compare it to the race pace. I’m sure we can improve as the season progresses. We will see next week if we can do better in Saudi Arabia.”
Lance walk (10th): “It’s nice to get points after finishing last in the first round. I got away well at the start, but then Nico Hulkenberg crashed into me and I rolled back.
I knew it would be a long race after that, so I focused on monitoring the tires and overtaking, and the team came up with a good strategy for me.
We know there is work to be done to develop the AMR24 and make it faster. We have a long season ahead of us and we will continue to attack.”
