Frederic Vasseur summarized the results of the first stage of the season at the Bahrain Grand Prix, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finishing third and fourth. The Ferrari team boss admitted that the result was worse than expected, but the picture could be different in Jeddah.
Frederic Vasseur: “If you start from the front row, you expect a better result than we managed to achieve today. We showed good potential in qualifying.
Carlos had a good pace in the race, while Charles had a harder time due to brake balance problems in the first twenty laps. As a result, he lost several positions on the track and we had to make his first pit stop earlier than planned. I appreciate the work Charles has done. He finished fourth and earned the team important points.
Carlos did a fantastic job. He showed the same pace as Sergio Perez. Carlos focused on making the best of his situation and paid no attention to others.
Last year in Bahrain we lost forty-eight seconds to Red Bull at the finish, and today it is just over twenty – we managed to close the gap. At the end of last season we were able to compete with Red Bull in a few races. The team remains focused, strives to further improve the car and progress and pays attention to detail.
I don’t want to say that everything was done well today because we had too many problems, but we will continue to move forward step by step. Let’s see what happens next week. It must be a completely different picture in Jeddah.”
