Daniel Ricciardo is dissatisfied with his teammate’s actions

After the finish of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo could not hide his dissatisfaction with the actions of Yuki Tsunoda, his teammate at Visa RB, which almost led to a collision of the team’s cars, and already on the return lap to the pits.

Tsunoda did not like the fact that he had to follow the team’s instructions five laps before the finish and let Ricciardo do his thing: the Australian was running on soft tires and in theory he had a better chance of staying ahead of Kevin Magnussen in the race. the battle for twelfth place.

Daniel was not successful in that either, although he made several attempts. But after the checkered flag, Tsunoda decided to overtake his teammate and locked the brakes hard for Turn 8, and as he returned to the track he almost collided with him.

Ricciardo responded on the radio in very harsh terms, also in unprintable terms.

“I don’t know, I still tried to stay calm when I talked about him on the radio. I’ll try to put it modestly: let’s say it was a kind of immaturity on his part,” said Daniel after the race. – Of course he is upset by such instructions from the team, but let’s be realistic: we discussed all this before the race. The scenario where I would get soft tires in the last stint was very likely.

He knew I would have a pace advantage and if he received the instructions from the team, that would be the way it would go. He wasn’t deprived of the opportunity to earn points by giving them to me, we were fighting for 13th position, but at least we could get a chance where at least one team car could finish in the top ten.

There is a long season ahead and we have to try to keep everything normal, so we will come back to this issue, hold a meeting and try to discuss everything like an adult, then prepare for the Jeddah stage.

Whether I finish 13th or 14th doesn’t matter to me – I don’t know if any of the riders care at all. And if the team asked to give him a position for the finish, I would do that, because it means nothing to me. If we don’t fight for points, what’s the difference?

I guess it didn’t play any role in that situation, and this was only the first race of 24. Yes, there was a little conflict, but I don’t want to predetermine anything. I think we will discuss everything during the meeting and honestly I hope that when everything calms down, Yuki will admit that he should have let me go a lap earlier.”
