Thursday afternoon the air in Paul Ricard warmed up to 36 degrees. Alfa Romeo debutant Guanyu Zhou admitted he had never driven in such conditions…
Guanyu Zhou: “I haven’t played in this heat yet. High temperatures affect the performance of the tires and that can help us. In these warmer conditions our car is working better, hopefully we will go faster than two weeks ago in Austria.
In Spielberg it was also difficult because a completely new chassis was fitted for me after the accident at Silverstone and in one practice session, before the restrictions on the closed park started, I did not manage to find the optimal balance. This weekend should be easier – we have three training sessions to prepare the car for qualifying and the race.
In this heat, riders need to drink plenty of fluids. I usually don’t use the drinking water system in the tub. This year I only had a bottle of water in Miami and Bahrain. But I will definitely post it here. It is not very pleasant to drink hot water during the race, but this weekend will not be easy – not only for the drivers, but also for the mechanics in the boxes. We rarely race in such warm weather.”
