In the first stage of the season in Bahrain, Sauber came close to earning points: Guanyu Zhou finished eleventh. The team believes they will have a chance to challenge for places in the top ten at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Valtteri Bottas: “One of the good things about the double stages is that we can try to bounce back from a disappointing race – and that is my goal in Jeddah.
I prefer to focus on the positive results of last weekend: we saw that the car had good racing speed. This applies not only to Zhou, but also to me, even though my car was damaged at the start. We can build on this foundation and continue to work on improving other aspects of the weekend. I have full confidence in our ability to be competitive on any track.
Saudi Arabia has an interesting circuit: fast, smooth and with several difficult corners. Being an urban circuit, the race track has some specific features: the conditions are constantly changing as the weekend progresses, and teams must respond accordingly.
I look forward to the next phase. I’m interested in how we will perform on a track that is completely different from the one we raced on last week.”
Guanyu Zhou: “Last week’s race results gave everyone in the team confidence. We know we have a good car, which will allow us to compete for the group we are in. You have to keep working to find effective settings and use the machine’s full potential. There is still a lot to be done and we will try to make the most of every opportunity.
I’m happy with how I performed in Sakhir: a strong start to the season and now I want more. There will be another opportunity to perform well in Jeddah and everyone in the team will be keen to confirm our form and earn points.”
