After the Bahrain Grand Prix, information appeared in the British press that two internal investigations were underway against FIA president Mohammed bin Sulayem.
The first relates to suspicions that he attempted to influence the results of last year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The second investigation stems from the FIA president last year ordering federation officials to find a way to prevent the Las Vegas circuit from being certified for safety compliance.
The FIA released a statement confirming that two reports on the actions of the FIA management are indeed under consideration by a specialist of the committee for monitoring compliance with the legislation of the federation.
“The FIA confirms that the Compliance Officer has received a report detailing possible allegations against certain members of the governing body,” the FIA said in a statement. “The Compliance Division is evaluating these allegations, as is customary in such matters, to ensure due process is thoroughly followed.”
Following the release of the statement, an FIA spokesperson issued a brief comment stating that not all of the information provided by the press was true: “It is unfortunate and worrying that the matter has been disclosed by the press without any prior consent and some of the details of the report were presented incorrectly.”
