Piastri: Red Bull’s advantage is smaller than we thought

Max Verstappen started the season with a confident victory, while his teammate Sergio Perez finished second. However, Oscar Piastri managed to find reason for optimism: Red Bull Racing’s lead over its rivals turned out to be smaller than McLaren had expected.

When Oscar was asked if he thought Red Bull Racing had improved compared to 2023, the Australian driver replied: “No. To be honest, their advantage isn’t as great as we expected.

They have the same pace and the same lead over the rest as last year. In 2023 they were always slightly faster in the races than in qualifying. Now they are not as far ahead as we feared at the start of the tests. However, their advantage is great.

Our form is more or less in line with expectations: the battle with Mercedes is very exciting, Ferrari is slightly ahead and Red Bull is one step ahead. But we started the year well. Let’s see what results we will show on other faster tracks with a different asphalt surface. There we will understand whether we have become better or worse compared to last year. I hope it’s better.”
