In the final laps of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda actively argued with the team, who asked him to let Daniel Ricciardo go ahead, and after the finish he almost collided with his teammate. On Wednesday in Jeddah, during an FIA press conference, the Japanese RB driver admitted that at that moment he succumbed to emotions and lost his cool, but assured that such behavior was a thing of the past.
Yuki Tsunoda: “We discussed what happened with the team after the race. Now we are united and on the same page: we understand each other.
During the race, Daniel and I had different strategies, and he had newer tires. I was battling with Kevin Magnussen and he was on an empty track, so his pace was faster. I think the team decided that because of the faster pace he had a better chance of overtaking Kevin, so they asked me to switch positions.
At that moment I was furious. I was overwhelmed with emotions, but after a lap and a half I was still missing it. The team thought he had a better chance and I respect their decision.
Before I sit in the cockpit, I constantly remind myself not to press the radio button at times like this and let this behavior happen. People probably enjoy listening to me, but I’m not as loud as it seems from TV broadcasts.
I am working hard to improve myself and you will see that on the track in the coming races.”
