Max Verstappen: We have to close the gap

Red Bull Racing’s best result in the second practice of the French Grand Prix was Max Verstappen’s third place. His teammate Sergio Perez set the tenth fastest time. Both drivers noted that they were not completely happy with the car’s settings.

Max Verstappen (3rd): “The second practice turned out to be a little more difficult for us than the first – the balance of the car was not what we expected when we experimented with the settings. We’ll see what we can do tomorrow, but clearly we need to close the gap.

On a long series of circles we are in the best shape, but overheated tires make it difficult to estimate what real position we are in. We know we have to work today.

The tires are heavily loaded on this route, so you can’t compare the alignment of forces with the last stage in Austria. We still have to work on the track, but in the long run we look good.”

Sergio Perez (10th): “We lost some time in the second session finishing the car, but nothing major. I still don’t feel completely comfortable in the car – in the evening there is a lot of work to understand the reasons and to prepare for tomorrow’s qualifying and Sunday’s race.

I was able to run a very short stretch on the Soft tires, but that’s what it is. I hope tomorrow we will be able to assemble all the components and fight. ”

Christian Horner, Team Principal: “As we can see Ferrari is competitive again this weekend and it looks like they have applied a high power mode to one of the laps. But overall, the Scuderia has a fast car from the start of the year.

We looked more or less competitive when we ran on soft tires and Medium compound, including a long run, although it was only five laps. But in general, we collected a lot of useful information during the training.

We have handled the first and second sectors well and the third still needs work, which we will do in the evening. Sergio Perez was working on a slightly different program than his partner, but when we analyze all the data, we combine the information we received from both machines.

At this track, the riders complained more about the behavior of the front of the car in the last sector, and we need to work on that.”
