Charles Leclerc is optimistic about Ferrari’s form after the first race of the season. At the FIA press conference, the Scuderia driver said work is underway to modernize the car and he expects to give Max Verstappen a stiffer fight soon.
Charles Leclerc: “The result of the race in Bahrain was more or less expected, maybe a little better, but after the first race it is too early to draw conclusions. In recent days all our attention has been focused on solving the brake problems I had during the race. I hope we can solve them.
At the moment we are not in a position to give Max a head-to-head battle, but we are in much better shape than last year after the first race. In 2023 we thought more about how to solve the current problems and did not focus on the future and updates of the car.
Now the car is much better and meets expectations, so the team can focus on updates. Like I said, we look better now than we did a year ago, but Max is still too far ahead.
I focus on the current tasks; we still have a lot to do as a team. We have a clear picture of the areas that need further work. The team is in good spirits after a successful second half of the season.
We spent the off-season productively and achieved our goals, the car does everything we want from it, so now we go to the track, collect new data and try to prepare new products as quickly as possible. I hope that we can soon put more pressure on Max than now.”
