The best RB driver in the second practice session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was Yuki Tsunoda, who posted the eleventh fastest time. The Japanese driver is happy with the car and hopes to reach the final qualifying round.
His teammate Daniel Ricciardo is in nineteenth place in the session protocol. The Australian said he was interrupted by traffic and complained about the strange behavior of the tires.
Yuki Tsunoda (11th): “Overall the day went well. There are still a few points we need to work on, but from a balance point of view the car is fine. The data we collected during both training sessions is very important and will help us make up time on Friday.
Last week in Bahrain I was only seven thousandths short of qualifying for the final. This shows how tight the competition is, but it also allows the team and I to stay motivated and focused.
We still have to adjust the settings and then put all the components together in qualifying and Saturday’s race. Let’s see how we deal with it.”
Daniel Ricciardo (19th): “Today’s second training can be divided into two halves. We were competitive on the first set of soft tyres, but when I switched to the second set the problems started. Furthermore, the condition of the track improved and everyone went faster, but I couldn’t improve my time because I got caught in traffic and couldn’t get into the rhythm.
What happened to the second set of tires remains a mystery to me, and we need to study everything. But if we remember how the car behaved during the first set, we shouldn’t feel much concern.
In the evening we try to understand how we should act to achieve improvements. If we talk about tomorrow, it is still difficult to predict its results, since today the results are very compact.
This circuit is very different from Bahrain, the surface properties are different here and therefore the behavior of the tires is different. But the track is great, so tomorrow’s qualifying should be fun.”
