At the French Grand Prix, the AlphaTauri team brought technical innovations that they tested in Friday practice. In the first session, the updates were only on Pierre Gasly’s car, allowing for a direct comparison of the new and previous configuration, and in the second session, Yuki Tsunoda also received new items.
Pierre Gasly (7th): “Speaking of speed, I returned to the top ten – in the morning I showed the fifth time, in the second session – the seventh. Thanks to the innovations the team has brought to this stage, we saw promising signs in the car’s behaviour. It’s great to get updates on the home track and to see so many fans in the stands.
Now we need to analyze the information gathered during today’s testing to prepare for tomorrow’s qualifying. The front of the car started to react more sharply and more reactively to steering inputs, especially in long corners, where we always severely overheated the tires. The tires are still overheated – we have some work to do before the race, but it should be fun.”
Yuki Tsunoda (14th): “In the morning, Pierre and I were making configuration comparisons, which allowed the team to gather enough information to prepare for qualifying. In the second session, on the very first lap, I felt the difference between the redesigned car and the previous one, and I’m happy about that.
We are going to have a difficult weekend, but based on the speed we showed today, the team has reason to be optimistic. There are still some things to be sorted out, but I hope we will adjust the settings and make it to the final of qualifying.
I didn’t feel a huge tire degradation, which is positive, but it will get even hotter in the race, so we’ll see.”
