Max Verstappen showed the third fastest time in the second training session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The reigning world champion said he was happy with the car’s speed and predicted an exciting battle for pole position in Friday’s qualifying.
His Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez finished fifth in practice. The Mexican racer said he knows how to change the settings to make the car faster.
Max Verstappen (3rd): “The training was quite successful. We have a good pace over the long and short distances, and the organizers have prepared the asphalt well, as this is a city circuit.
Overall we learned a lot and now we will analyze the information collected to find a way to improve a fast lap.
We know that some teams used higher power engine settings for one lap. We will study the telemetry and try to get the most out of the car.
I look forward to qualifying with optimism. The fight will be exciting, but I’m happy with today’s speed and looking forward to tomorrow.”
Sergio Perez (5th): “I think the car is in good condition, so it was a positive day. It is necessary to fine-tune the settings a little further, but I am happy that we have managed to bring the car within operational range and that the team understands what needs to be done tomorrow.
We have a clear idea in which direction we need to move to make the car faster. If we do this we will improve both in the long distance and in qualifying. I’m very happy with today. The challenge now is to align all the pieces of the puzzle in qualifying; that’s the main goal. Let’s see what result we achieve.
The first sector of the track is very fast and you can get scared when you get into traffic, so tomorrow you have to do clean laps. I’m looking forward to Friday.”
