Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg showed the seventeenth and eighteenth fastest times in the second training session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Haas drivers said they were not happy with the car’s speed during the fast lap.
Kevin Magnussen (17th): “I think we had a good day, although the pace is not impressive. The car looks good over a long series of laps, but the speed on an empty tank could be higher. We have to pick up the pace a bit and I hope we can do that. The gaps are minimal, so if you gain back two tenths you can get closer to ten.
I think if we do a perfect lap in qualifying we will finish around tenth. We want to get a high starting position, but race pace is more important, so we will continue to focus on that. Everything will be decided tomorrow.”
Nico Hulkenberg (18th): “This weekend is different to what we saw in Bahrain – different sensations and another very fast track.
The day went well – we had no problems, but I won’t say the car was great. We have the opportunity to improve, especially in a fast lap. Then we get closer to the average group, but it all depends on attention to detail.
On the first day we had the usual learning process and I hope that tomorrow we will put all the pieces together. The team now faces a more difficult task than seven days ago, but you never know what the results will be, because the gaps are minimal.”
