Vasseur: I hope Carlos will be back in action soon

Before qualifying in Jeddah, Frederic Vasseur, the head of the Scuderia, commented on the situation his team found itself in due to unexpected health problems of Carlos Sainz, who needed urgent surgery to remove his appendix.

Frederic Vasseur: “He had surgery and his condition is normal, although we are obviously not talking about this weekend. But I hope Carlos will be back in action soon. The situation is not easy, but everything is under control, events are developing in the right direction, especially since we have to think about the future.

The problems started Thursday morning when he wasn’t feeling well. At first we thought it was food poisoning, but this morning it got even worse. Carlos was taken to the hospital and everything became clear there.

This weekend he will be replaced by Oliver Berman, who drove our car a few months ago and did an excellent job. Last year he did two training sessions with Haas in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi, and he also did well.

But when a driver has to unexpectedly get behind the wheel in the third practice session, and even on a circuit like this, he obviously has to solve difficult problems. Oliver had a great F2 qualifying yesterday and won pole, and I think this can also be considered good preparation.

There is always a difference between being able to perform well in the youth series and Formula 1. We don’t need to draw any conclusions at the moment, so we will give him time to adapt and I am not going to put pressure on him. busy this weekend.”
