The three-time Formula 1 champion completed the lap in his best attempt in 1 minute 27.472 seconds. The second result was posted by Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc (+0.319), with the top three completed by another Red Bull driver Sergio Perez (+0.335).
Earlier it was reported that Oliver Birman will replace Carlos Sainz at Ferrari this weekend, after the Spaniard was hospitalized with appendicitis. As a result, the 18-year-old driver finished 11th in the first qualifying session.
The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix race will take place on Saturday at 20:00 Moscow time.
