Max Verstappen continues to dominate the championship circuit and today he won qualifying in Jeddah. The three-time world champion had a lead of more than three tenths over his nearest opponent…
Max Verstappen (1st): “Great day! Last night we were able to improve the car’s settings a little, which allowed me to attack with more confidence in the fast corners. On this circuit a lot depends on how confident you are in the car and how close you can get to the limit.
Today I was very comfortable behind the wheel during qualifying, but the speeds here are just insane. In the last session, after the first attempt, I was quite happy with the way I rode the lap. It felt much the same as the lap I failed in 2021, but today I was able to get through the last corner well.
Everything went very well, I had fun and the car left a great impression. We’ve seen some crazy racing at this track in the past, so a lot could happen tomorrow. But I am confident that our car can deliver good race pace and that it will work as it should.”
Sergio Perez (3rd): “I didn’t make any significant improvements on the last attempt, so we missed the opportunity to break into the second row. But although Max did a great lap, I couldn’t do it today, although in theory it was possible to get on the front row.
Anyway, we will fight tomorrow, the race is long and a lot can happen. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix promises to be interesting and eventful, and I think it will be fun. The cars that will start next to mine can reach about the same speed, so we will have an exciting battle tomorrow.”
