Nico Hulkenberg entered the second part of qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, but ended the race early due to a loss of engine power. Haas said the problem was related to the fuel system.
His teammate Kevin Magnussen qualified thirteenth and expects to compete for points in Saturday’s race.
Kevin Magnussen (13th): “Today everything went better than expected. Apparently the lower temperature didn’t help us, so instead of leaving the pits for one lap, we had to do two. It seems that our car is more sensitive to cold weather, although it is usually the other way around.
Thirteenth place is a good starting position next to ten. I think we can compete for points. It could have been much worse.”
Nico Hulkenberg (15th): “I lost engine power. The team on radio said the problem was with the fuel system. There was no fuel coming to the engine, so they asked me to stop.
Yesterday everything was fine, although not great, but we were still able to do a good job with the settings, but we won’t be able to truly appreciate the work we did until tomorrow.
I think it will be a difficult race, given my starting position and the traffic in the middle of the peloton. An interesting day awaits us – the team will be able to evaluate how the car behaves on a track that is very different from Sakhir.”
