Valtteri Bottas dropped out of the race in the first part of qualifying in Jeddah and Guanyu Zhou was allowed to start by decision of the stewards after an accident in training.
Valtteri Bottas (16th): “It’s a shame if you are a few hundredths short of qualifying for the second part. I drove faster than planned, but two cars immediately got in my way. Unfortunately, today everything did not go in our favor.
But tomorrow is a new day, new opportunities to compete with rivals. A good race pace should allow us to recover. The starting positions are not ideal, so it is important to avoid problems at the start and in the first corner – and do everything you can to earn points.”
Guanyu Zhou (ready to start): “The team did a fantastic job restoring my car in such a short time. It wasn’t easy. The accident in turn six was serious. I lost the back of the car and it was badly damaged.
So far the weekend has gone well, the team took a step forward. Unfortunately we start at the back of the race, so tomorrow will be difficult, but we have a good race pace, so there is reason for optimism.”
