Verstappen: Fantastically successful weekend! – all Formula 1 2024 news

The Red Bull Racing drivers achieved another winning double for their team and Max Verstappen topped the podium for the ninth time in a row in Saudi Arabia.

Max Verstappen (1st): “Overall the weekend was fantastically successful for me and the whole team. The car made a very good impression, also over the race distance. Obviously the last segment turned out to be longer than we would have liked, but because of the appearance of the safety car we had to go for it.

Therefore, in the last laps, when it was necessary to get before the roundabouts, the car began to slide – on this circuit with its fast corners, as soon as the temperature of the tires goes even slightly beyond the operating range, it becomes more difficult to drive . But we were still able to maintain a good pace throughout the lap and we were able to handle everything well, which is very nice.

And since this is only the second race of the season and the overload on this circuit is very high, including because the movement is counterclockwise, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is one of the most difficult in terms of physical activity .”

Sergio Perez (2nd): “We have certainly made good progress. But it’s a shame that we didn’t start from the front row at the end of qualifying, because today I had a great start. Unfortunately Charles also did everything right and I couldn’t beat him straight away, but the battle with him was interesting.

And then the safety car intervention so early affected our race, after which we had to run on hard tires for a very long segment. It was sometimes difficult, especially at the beginning of this period. It took a long time to warm up the tires, the car slid a lot and it took us a long time to stay ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.

But overall the day went very well for our team. This circuit is significantly different to Bahrain, but we continue to perform with a lot of confidence, so we just have to keep the momentum going. In my opinion, after the first phase of the season we managed to take a step forward, and now we have to keep improving the car – our time will come.

It’s just a shame that we got a penalty today, but luckily that didn’t ruin the race for us…”
