Fernando Alonso finished fifth in Jeddah. This result allowed the Spanish Aston Martin driver to rise to seventh place in the individual rankings. His partner Lance Stroll did not reach the finish – the Canadian crashed his car and caused a safety car to appear on the track.
Fernando Alonso (5th): “I’m very happy to have finished fifth in today’s race. I managed to beat one McLaren driver, one Ferrari driver and both Mercedes drivers – a great result for the team. I think we have reached the maximum at this point.
The race was intense from start to finish. I fought with George Russell almost the whole distance. I had to do more than 40 laps on hard tires – it was an unknown factor, but I managed to control the condition of the tires and implement the one pit stop strategy.
The team will continue to work to get more speed out of the car. There is a long season ahead and we are working on the future.”
Lance walk (meeting): “A disappointing end to a good weekend. I attacked too much in the first laps – the opponents I fought were faster and the tires started to lose all their effectiveness. I tried to create an opening and hit the wall.
Positive results include the team gaining points in both races, and we know we can count on more thanks to the car’s potential.
I’m already looking forward to the podium in Australia. I love the country and this race, so I will try to enjoy it. I am sure we will keep the momentum going.”
